VRS Future Proofed Technology

VRS is a Java based designed to be installed within the corporate network infrastructure. The product relies on a core JDBC compliant database and a J2EE application server and can run on Windows or Solaris operating systems. The database and application server can be set as your corporate standard environment, or if there is nothing already any in place then a MS-SQL Server database and a JBoss (opensource/free) application server can be deployed.

The VRS front end is through 100% intranet Internet Explorer browsers and no client installation is required.

Generation of client reports is through server side processing from online adhoc requests or from workflow schedules. Report documents of any format (Word, PDF, HTML, PowerPoint, CSV, XML and Excel) can be created through browser requests without any additional PC/client side functionality.

Scalability is enabled through server side load balancing, allowing any number of host machines to work together in parallel to achieve and smooth out the peaks and troughs of the expected daily, weekly, monthly and/or quarterly enterprise reporting requirements.

Once installed on your corporate server(s), VRS can be rapidly configured and customised to extract corporate data assets and enhance this with commentary managed within the VRS product, before generating automated, workflow controlled report documents that can be set-up to be emailed or ftp'ed to your chosen destinations.

Customisation can be anything from simple settings through to complex programmatic custom modules to handle advanced data ETL (Extract Transform and Load), workflow actions or reporting functions.

Key technology points are,

  • Any J2EE application server such as Oracle9iAS, IBM Websphere, BEA WebLogic, JBOSS (opensource/free) etc.
  • Any O/S capable of running JDK1.4 - e.g. Windows 2000, SunOs/Solaris, Linux, etc.
  • Internet Explorer 5.5+ on client PCs
  • JDBC compliant core application database such as Oracle, IBM DB2, MS-SQL Server or Sybase
  • SQL Data sources can be from any vendor that JDBC drivers are available for (e.g. Sybase, DB2/UDB, Oracle, MS SQL Server, Ingress, etc)
  • File based data sources can be XML, CSV or MS-Excel
  • Non JDBC data sources may be accessed through any DBMS Vendor specific Java API if available
  • A Windows (2000 or NT) host machine(s) with MSMQ is required in order to generate Microsoft native document formats
